Last week the Binare team was lucky enough to attend the Super Computing Innovation Summit 2023. The event took place on the 4th and 5th of October in Kajaani. Our employee Denis Kurepin attended the event. He was representing the Extract-EU project.

This EU-funded project is developing a data-driven, open-source software platform that integrates key technologies for developing reliable, accurate, fair, and environmentally friendly data mining processes capable of producing high-quality and actionable knowledge.

In what follows, we give Denis the opportunity to share with us his impressions and reflections on what took place during the event:

“Recently I had the chance to attend the Supercomputing Innovation Summit 2023 in Kajaani, Finland. The Summit was a two-day event that brought together experts from academia, industry, and government to discuss the latest advances in supercomputing technology and applications.

There were many presentations, sessions, and workshops covering topics including

At the Future of Supercomputing event, the discussion was about how supercomputers are becoming more powerful, more accessible, and more affordable. These are enabling us to solve problems that were once thought impossible. It can be applied to the development of new medicines, the design of new materials, and the creation of new finance algorithms. Weather forecasting, climate modeling, and disaster preparedness are also being improved with supercomputing.

The sense of excitement and optimism was one of the things that struck me most about the Summit. It is clear that supercomputing is a rapidly evolving field that has the potential to revolutionize a wide range of industries and help solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Here are a few specific thoughts on what I have seen over the past two days:

– The future of supercomputing is bright. Supercomputing is becoming more powerful, more accessible, and more affordable, according to speakers at the Summit. That makes solving problems that were once thought impossible possible.

– Many industries will be revolutionized by quantum computing. Quantum computers have the potential to solve problems that are unsolvable by classical computers, although they are still in the early stages of development.

– In new and powerful ways, AI is being integrated into supercomputing. AI is being used to improve supercomputer performance and develop new supercomputing applications.

Among the high points of the summit was the visit to the LUMI supercomputing centre. LUMI is the fastest supercomputer in Europe and is truly a marvel of engineering. It was amazing to see how the thousands of processors in LUMI work together to solve complex problems.

Overall, I was very impressed with the Supercomputing Innovation Summit 2023. This has been an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest advances in supercomputing and to network with experts from around the world. For anyone interested in supercomputing or its applications, I would highly recommend this event.”
